Victory is the ultimate aim in high performance sports; when it comes to team sports, the goal is the key that allows players to achieve that victory. This is the case with futsal which, due to its internal structure as well as the speed in the development of its game, makes the achievement of a goal not an isolated event, but rather more than one goal must be scored to achieve victory. The aim of the present study is to analyze (...) the construction of offensive sequences that have resulted in goal-scoring in the two main European futsal leagues, the Spanish and the Italian, as well as to identify the patterns relating to offensive actions that have ended with a goal being scored. Observational methodology was used to develop the research and an ad hoc observation instrument was developed for this purpose. The data was analyzed using inferential statistics as well as sequential analysis of delays in a diachronic analysis to identify the patterns of offensive actions. The results obtained enable recognition of a league’s idiosyncrasy patterns in goal-scoring in each of the leagues studied. The results obtained will allow experts to have a better understanding of how goals are scored and how to establish more specific training tasks, in both attack and defense. (shrink)

Les essais ici rassemblés abordent plusieurs figures de dépassement. Les traces auctoriales et leur présence dans l'espace de la fiction, depuis les miroirs et leur double dans l'art des primitifs flamands, en passant par les “feintes” baroques de (...) Murillo et de Rembrandt, puis le jeu chiffré des “autoportraits croisés” de Manet et Degas, pour arriver, enfin, à la mise en scène de la disparition de l'artiste, opérée par Andy Warhol, trahissent la tentation de la traversée de l'image. Un autre thème récurrent présent, tantôt en filigrane, tantôt en saillie, est celui du spectateur pris au piège, dont la figure emblématique fut Don Quichotte, le chevalier errant aux prises avec les moulins à vent. Occasion de réfléchir, autour de certains "tableaux-rets" qui défièrent les sens du spectateur, par-delà la vue et la vision, jusqu'à le tenter à “goûter” une pomme qui n'est que peinture, ou à toucher un tableau, au péril - illusoire bien sûr - de se brûler les doigts. In "The Existence of God," Richard Swinburne offers several arguments for the claim that death is not a surprising phenomenon on the assumption that God exists. I try to show that his arguments fail individually and when taken collectively. Further, I claim that the kinds of assumptions involved in his arguments can plausibly be used to argue that death would be surprising if God exists and therefore that death counts as evidence against God's existence. Finally, I argue that Swinburne's claims (...) create problems for theists who believe in eternal life after death since his arguments seem to entail that God would have good reason for denying us eternal life beyond the grave. The contemporary proliferation of “filter bubbles” and “echo chambers” seems to render obsolete the notion of a public sphere in the singular. In my article, I would like to argue against this view: Following Jürgen Habermas, “the public sphere” can be understood as the concomitant horizon of communicative action, while the latter permeates society as a whole. On the basis of this socio-philosophical approach, the omnipresent tendencies toward fragmentation appear as reactive attempts to ward off this socially established and context-transcending (...) context of discussion. Habermas himself, however, has never adopted this perspective. Instead, he interprets the various symptoms of the decline of the public sphere—including its fragmentation—as the result of a “colonization of the lifeworld” by economic, bureaucratic, and technological system logics. However, on the basis of the concept of “systematically distorted communication,” which was still crucial for Habermas’s early work, it is possible to reconstruct how the lifeworld context of communicative action, out of which the public sphere emerges, is not only corroded and cut through from the outside by system logics but also exhibits its own dialectic of the refusal of discourse and the overcoming of this refusal. The fragmentation of the public sphere that we are confronted with today can be theoretically interpreted and politically addressed as a precarious standstill of this dialectic. (shrink)

This paper explores the metaethical ramifications of a coarse-grained criterion of property identity, sometimes referred to as Hume's dictum. According to Hume's dictum, properties are identical if and only if they are necessarily co-extensive. Assuming the supervenience of the normative on the natural, this criterion threatens the non-naturalist view that there are instantiable normative properties which are distinct from natural properties. In response, non-naturalists typically point to various counterintuitive implications of Hume's dictum. The paper clarifies this strategy and defends it (...) against objections by Bart Streumer and Ralf Bader. In addition, it is argued that proponents of naturalist and supernaturalist views, along with proponents of a certain kind of nihilism, should also reject Hume's dictum. This shows that non-naturalists can also attack the criterion indirectly, by pointing to partners in guilt. Also, it shows that not just any opponent of non-naturalism can appeal to Hume's dictum. Many fragments from Theophrastus on perception are preserved by the late Neoplatonist, Priscian of Lydia. After preliminary source criticism concerning how to identify the fragments, I turn to Theophrastus’ discussion of perceiving and perceptual awareness. While he clearly rejects literalism, he also does not embrace “spiritualism”: he argues instead that we receive the defining proportions of perceptible qualities in the sense organ, though in different contraries than in the perceptible (thereby avoiding literalism). If Priscian’s report is faithful, Theophrastus also accepts (...) a moderate capacity reading of De anima III.2, locating awareness in a central monitoring sense, common to the individual modalities; and this has further implications for the unity of consciousness. Theophrastus’ method, though aporetic in form, is nonetheless a constructive engagement with the same texts of Aristotle’s we have ourselves, in the service of a joint research program in psychology that he shared with his colleague and former teacher. Das zentrale »Spätwerk« von Wilfred Bion, die fiktionale Trilogie »A Memoir of the Future« (1975–1979), wurde im deutschsprachigen psychoanalytischen Diskurs bisher wenig beachtet. Die Rezeption wird zweifellos durch die fehlende Übersetzung, aber auch durch die Sperrigkeit und überbordende Komplexität des Werks erschwert. In seiner Trilogie geht es Bion nicht um die Präsentation neuer psychoanalytischer Theorien oder klinischer Fakten, vielmehr ist er darum bemüht, eine Sprache und Form zu finden, die unmittelbare emotionale Erfahrung evoziert. In diesem Erfahrungsbericht sollen in diesem Sinne (...) weniger Inhalte referiert als vielmehr der Versuch einer Untersuchung der Wirkungen, die das Werk im Leser hervorruft, unternommen werden. Das Buch erweist sich als harte Prüfung für die Fähigkeit, Nichtwissen und Nichtverstehen auszuhalten und somit der Verführung zu widerstehen, sich in Altbekanntes zu flüchten und damit das Aufkommen einer tatsächlich neuen Erfahrung zu verhindern. Anhand der detaillierten Analyse eines Kapitels aus dem ersten Band der Trilogie werden die Möglichkeiten der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk exemplarisch dargestellt und diskutiert. (shrink)

We examine access to institutions and opportunity for entrepreneurs in a rising tech economy. A significant proportion of entrepreneurs and CEOs of tech firms in the American economy are either first- or second-generation immigrant minorities. Are these minority entrepreneurs assimilating into a rising economic elite? To what extent is the technology economy segmented by ethnic boundaries and sectors? On a range of empirical measures, including access to financial and social capital, firm performance, and normative beliefs on fairness and cooperation, we (...) find second-generation immigrant minority tech entrepreneurs to be strikingly similar to their white counterparts. This study sheds new light on the institutional environment of a new regional technology economy, whereby barriers of entry are high in terms of human capital but economic competition is structurally and culturally open to immigrant minority entrepreneurs. By rephrasing quantifier-free axioms as rules of derivation in sequent calculus, we show that the generalized Steiner–Lehmus theorem admits a direct proof in classical logic. This provides a partial answer to a question raised by Sylvester in 1852. We also present some comments on possible intuitionistic approaches.

El desarrollo de la tecnociencia en los últimos decenios ha sido vertiginoso y los problemas y dilemas bioéticos que plantea a la humanidad son incontables. Sin embargo, el pensamiento bioético está recién comenzando a analizar la trascendencia de los adelantos científico-técnicos; particularmente en relación a problemáticas de frontera, tales como: las tecnologías de fertilización asistida, las investigaciones con células madre, el mantenimiento de la vida con técnicas artificiales, entre otras. Temas cardinales como la humanización de la medicina, el derecho a (...) la salud, la influencia nociva de la comercialización y la medicalización excesiva no forman parte hegemónica del discurso bioético. Es preocupante que la formación de los profesionales de salud mayoritariamente ignora la importancia de la bioética secular fundamentada en los derechos humanos, que debiera ser el eje de la capacitación para prestar atención de salud. Éste artículo se focalizará en la genómica, una rama de la tecnociencia de gran predicamento actual. (shrink)

La siguiente investigación aborda los fenómenos del veganismo y el activismo por la liberación animal, entendiendo a ambos como formas de resistencia y oposición al especismo y la dominación que ejerce el ser humano hacia los otros animales. Corresponde a un trabajo que se aproxima desde la sociología a lo que académicamente se ha denominado como la “cuestión animal”. Al respecto, lo que se buscó fue profundizar en los discursos y significados que emanan de la experiencia cotidiana de los activistas (...) veganos, y de sus experiencias en tanto activistas por la liberación animal. Sobre lo metodológico, se deben mencionar el carácter exploratorio de la investigación y su diseño fenomenológico-interpretativo. La muestra corresponde a cinco sujetos activistas veganos aspirantes a la liberación animal residentes en la ciudad de Iquique, Chile. La recolección de datos fue a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas, mientras que el análisis se realizó mediante teoría fundamentada. La principal conclusión de la investigación fue que los discursos y significados de los activistas veganos son heterogéneos. Sin embargo, y pese a eso, se pueden encontrar algunos discursos y significados comunes; por ejemplo, sobre la imposibilidad de abandonar el veganismo o respecto del veganismo como motor de la liberación animal. O Lobolo é um casamento tradicional praticado no Sul de Moçambique, que consiste na entrega de bens materiais e valores monetários à família da noiva para realizar uma união reconhecida entre os parentes do noivo e os parentes da noiva. Esta prática sociocultural mostra-se dinâmica, transformando-se e reinventando-se ao longo do tempo, assumindo diversos contornos, podendo estar inserido no conflito entre a “tradição” e a “modernidade”. O Lobolo resistiu no tempo, tendo sido desencorajado tanto pelas autoridades coloniais, defensoras de um (...) casamento monogâmico e o desencorajamento continuou no governo de Moçambique, logo após a Independência Nacional em 1975, e foi considerada uma prática retrógrada, contra os ideais revolucionários. São objectivos do estudo: mostrar o carácter resiliente do Lobolo às pressões políticas, tanto no período colonial, quanto no período pós-independência; apresentar as percepções sociais sobre a sua vitalidade no tempo. This work is a sequel to our [16]. It is shown how Theorem 4 of [16], dealing with the translatability of HA(Heyting's arithmetic) into negationless arithmetic NA, can be extended to the case of intuitionistic arithmetic in higher types.

This is critical review of Richard Dean’ book, The Value of Humanity in Kant’s Moral Theory. Dean’s book was evaluated, and some of his interpretations of Kant were critiqued. However, it concludes that Dean’s book is illuminating especially, as regards the distinction he made between consent and informed consent and their roles in biomedical practice.

Data from three separate studies conducted in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1993 are used to analyse the relationship between the type of social environment in which women work and their fertility and contraceptive use. The analysis finds that women who work in more collectivized environments have fewer children and are more likely to use modern contraception than women who work in more individualized milieus and those who do not work outside the home. Most of these differences persist in multivariate tests. It (...) is argued that collectivized work environments are most conducive to diffusion and legitimation of reproductive innovations. In contrast, individualized environments tend to isolate women and therefore may retard their acceptance of innovative fertility-related behaviour. (shrink)
